What is Blended learning?

Blended Learning (BL) first and foremost combines face-to-face learning with online learning. The online learning component is meant to facilitate students choice and voice over how and when they learn, as well as, how they demonstrate mastery. Additionally, the online component is measurable and includes an online learning management system to organize students' learning paths, assign playlists, provide instruction and feedback and data tracking.

Philosophy

We live in a digital world and it is imperative that 21st century students learn to navigate, evaluate and incorporate technology into their learning environment. BL allows students choice and voice over how and when they learn, which encourages autonomy and ownership.

Digital Citizenship

We teach digital citizenship to our students, just as we teach students to be kind and caring, understanding and accepting responsibility. What you do online, affects your life offline. Learning Profiles & Playlists

Learning Profiles are a synopsis of students mastery over time and including learning preferences and interests. Learning Profiles enable students, teachers and families to create Learning Paths that are differentiated and personalized to students abilities and learning styles. Playlists are the tasks students are expected to complete to facilitate mastery of lesson objectives. They include assessments, videos, worksheets, podcasts, online discussions, individual and group projects, games, and more. Technology

The technology used in a BL environment is varied and engaging. Teachers can create podcasts, you tube videos, info-graphics and content websites. Students can collaborate online, create learning portfolios and demonstrate mastery using digital tools

Learning Management System

The Learning Management System (LMS) can come in many forms. There are many programs that can be purchased like Schoology, Google Classroom, Blackboard. Ideally, the LMS will be a single sign on with content and mastery tracking, that also allows teacher's to differentiate and assign elements outside of the LMS.
